Swing City - Beginners Lindy Hop six week course

Main Hall, 16 Lewes Road, Brighton

This course will run for six Tuesdays starting 16th January. It is suitable for absolute beginners and those who have previously tried Lindy Hop classes but don't yet have the confidence to social dance. You are welcome to repeat the course although the content will be similar, but some people find this really helpful. Your teachers Faye and Simon love the joy of social dancing and can't wait to share their knowledge with you, and will make sure you have a whole lot of fun while learning! Sign up with or without a partner. Roles are not gender specific, anyone can lead or follow, but you will need to stick with your chosen role for the full six weeks. We will rotate partners during each class - it's fun and valuable to learn with different people! However, if you'd rather stick with the same partner throughout, that's fine too, just let us know at the start of class.

PAYMENT/BOOKING Payment in advance: £38 for six classes or £28 student/unwaged Please email swingcitybrighton@gmail.com to book, letting us know your full name and pronouns, if you're booking as a lead or follow, and whether you're at the regular or concession rate. We will then send you a payment link. NOTE: The Swing City team are taking a break for the festivities and will be taking bookings from 2nd January when we will get back to our emails and admin! BE AWARE: Bookings are ONLY made via Swing City. Please ignore any third-party site such as AllEvents which might have cloned our event page without our permission - unfortunately we have no control over them.

WHAT IS LINDY HOP? Lindy Hop is a Black American dance that evolved in the New York district of Harlem from the late 1920s alongside the development of jazz music. Its heyday was the Swing era of the 1930s and 40s and at its centre was the magnificent Savoy Ballroom in Harlem, home to the famous Whitey’s Lindy Hoppers. We are incredibly fortunate to be dancing Lindy Hop today thanks to some of the original Lindy Hoppers including Norma Miller and Frankie Manning who passed on their knowledge to younger generations.
